The Liberte News Agency

Hello, Bonjour! My name is Audrey and I am a reporter for the great nation of Egalite! (I am not the queen, by the way.) I have some very interesting and cool news to report. ( Please read below. (Please note: The losers of the wars will remain nameless for the most part.)

1. A war was fought between Euroamerica and Savannnah Land. The battlefield? Tic Tac Toe. Savannah Land won!

The first game was a cat, the next two (it was played best out of three) were won by Savannah. Euroamerica's ruler made not smart moves and Savannah won by a landslide. I oversaw this war.

2. ANOTHER war took place on Friday. This one was between Allison and Marin. They battled it out in an intense game of Sorry! Two other people who shall remain nameless played, but just for fun.

I oversaw this war as well and, after a very close game, Allison won! Congratulations, Allison! However, they negotiated a peace treaty with a negotiator who wishes to remain anonymous

3. A third war occurred on Thursday between Coqui(Patricia) and the Anotherlands (Holland). This one involved Hangman. I oversaw this war and thought of the word which was "conspicuous".

Both opponents were caught off guard when Holland guessed correctly and won the war without even realizing it! I negotiated the peace treaty because Coqui refused to rebel.

4. A great international treaty concerning the environment was formed by Lexie Goldberger of Lexgland. She called it S.L.E.E.P. Here's the link: http://sleepinternationaltreaty.blogspot.com/2006/09/purpose-of-sleep.html

S.L.E.E.P stands for The Sea, Land, and Earth Enviromental Protection Pact. It is an international treaty designed to protect the micronation planet and Priyabonita Land and Egalite are members of it. Awesome job Lexie!

5. The White Rose Alliance, created by Queen Julia the Divine of the Lacrista Empire, is designed to protect other micronations and ally with them.

Lacrista is not neutral, so non-neutral countries can join. However, she permits neutral countries, but they don't have to fight wars. Here's that link: http://whiterosealliance.blogspot.com/ Neat site, Julia!

6.

Immigrants:

Camile Cleveland solemnly swears to uphold the laws and customs of Egalite and take over if Queen Anna Elizabeth dies.

Kristen McFarren swears to uphold all laws and customs as well.

My Treaties and Trade Agreements:

Trade Agreements:

1. Our three countries, two warlike and one neutral, agree to exchange cocoa beans, pot, and jewelry.

Kim Andrade-Belleya
Savannah Murphy- Savannah Land
Egalite-Queen Anna Elizabeth (aka Audrey)

2.Our countries agree to trade chocolate and gum freely. Link: http://thesweettoothexchange.blogspot.com

Ashley Soon-Zopic

Egalite: Me

Alliances:

Our two countries, Intuicion and Egalite, both neutral, swear to not fight with each other and form an alliance.

Julie Brito

Queen Anna Elizabeth (Audrey)

I have also joined the White Rose and Olive Branch Alliances.

International Treaties: I have ratified the S.L.E.E.P. treaty, created by Lexie Goldberger.

Essay #3: 9-11

On September 11th, 2001, the Twin Towers were demolished with planes speeding at 600 miles per hour. The fuel chambers from the planes caught fire and the wrought iron frames of the towers were melted.

We all know that story. But do we know how the United States could have prevented this tragic event from occurring? The government later found out Osama bin Laden had been planning to attack the World Trade Center since 1993, and the Pentagon could have been protected. I think this is ridiculous. The United States knew Al Qaeda was going to attack and they didn't do a thing about it?

Most citizens believe the CIA, FBI, and other branches of government were extraordinarily stupid for not foreseeing this attack occurring. Before 9-11, members of Al Qaeda were known to have been in California and the FBI did nothing about them, either. A newspaper columnist said, “Given all the alarm bells, I just can't understand why they would tolerate the presence of two known Al Qaeda members in California. Everyone in the CIA knew they were Al Qaeda, but they did nothing! Had this information been given to the FBI, they could have uncovered the 9/11 plot at that time." Another analyst called it “the largest failure in the history of the U.S. military to defend against foreign attack.”

Fortunately, the United States is able to stop an event similar to 9-11 from happening again. They need to make peace with those around them instead of going to war for no good reason and making unnecessary enemies. I don’t think President Bush realizes he’s not helping Iraq or the U.S. military by staying in Iraq. We need to focus on Al Qaeda. The U.S. must destroy any plan this vile group makes before it hatches. They also need to watch out for attacks they have brought on themselves by this horrendous, unnecessary war. I believe eventually, when they are yet again unprepared, Iraqis are going to turn around and retaliate against the U.S.

The president has also created The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004, which is designed to prevent future terrorist attacks. However, the United States’ security is more advanced because many people are afraid it will happen again. The security in many other countries have improved, too. That is pretty much the only good thing that came out of 9-11, in my opinion.

If 9-11 were ever to happen to my micronation, I would be prepared. My Protecteurs Secrets, or Secret Protectors, are very diligent and would know immediately if Egalite was under attack or even in the most remote amount of danger. Terrorists like Al Qaeda should try messing with Egalite; I’d like to see them do so. I also have a terrific defence force who also monitors everything entering and exiting the country. If an incident similar to 9-11 would ever occur in Egalite, I would know about it by the time the terrorists crossed the border. Then, my defence force, would ambush the terrorists in a pre-determined plan.

Essay #2- The Kyoto Protocol

The Kyoto Protocol is an international treaty, created by the United Nations, to be signed by countries who wish to pledge to reduce the major cause of global warming...greenhouse gas emissions. It is an agreement in which ALL countries pledge to reduce their emissions once from where they were at 1990 at, starting in 2008. It was adopted in 1997 and by 2005, it was put into effect. This agreement does not ask countries to change what they already have, but either to get rid of their worst greenhouse gas problems or, when creating new construction plans or new technologies, decreasing sharply or eliminating greenhouse gases. The problem is, it requires major tax increases to pay for more energy-efficient plants and other necessities the country needs to honor this agreement. In addition, some countries that have already signed and are practicing that method are increasing and decreasing their emission rates at different levels. Germany and Denmark , for example, are forced to cut their emissions by 21% , Sweden can increase their emissions by 4%, and France’s emissions have stayed the same since 1990. A lot of countries love this idea of trying to save our planet and it will create a better environment in the country, so they are happy to ratify it. Some countries think the countries who are not honoring the treaty are not fair, and decide not to sign the Kyoto Protocol.

The United States, for example, refuse to sign it. People all over the world are shocked. Why is the Bush Administration not signing it? All the other countries in the world that are members of the United Nations, except four, ratified it. Why can’t we? All the evidence supporting the causes of global warming relates to greenhouse gas emissions. Why doesn’t the Bush Administration recognize that? I, and all of Egalite, agree with the rest of the world. This is an outrage! Because of this, countries such as Australia and Canada are bowing out of the treaty as well. Also, since the United States is refusing to sign the treaty, citizens of countries are not showing support in attempting to honor the treaty. Brazil is a great example of the government ratifying it, and the people not honoring it. Some countries even think the treaty is unrealistic. Sadly, the less support the Kyoto Protocol has, the worse global warming will get, and that is never good news.

Some countries are signing the document, but not honor it. That’s ridiculous, in my opinion. Why would you agree to something and then turn around and not fulfill your part of the bargain? The big oil-producing countries, like Saudi Arabia, fear their economy will crash because countries will stop buying oil. My micronation, upon signing the protocol, will attempt to omit greenhouse gases entirely. We will filter smoke rising from factories and power plants, and there will be almost no cars in Egalite as it is. I don’t know about you, but I want to do my part to save our beautiful blue planet, and apparently other countries feel that way, too.

Essay #1- Form of Government

My micronation is a constitutional monarchy. Basically, that means the "Head of State," or monarch, has a Parliament elected by the people and Parliament makes and passes laws, but they must do it according to a constitution, not however they feel like because they can. Constitutional monarchy is much like a democracy, as far as structure, but very different as well. The monarch must remain politically neutral, and is not replaced until death. They are also not permitted to make or pass any laws and are the leaders of certain organizations, such as the military or, in England's case, the church. Parliament is divided into two houses, one with more authority than the other, much like the Senate and the House of Legislatives in the United states. In England, for example, the two houses of Parliament are the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Constitutional monarchies started in Britain. Before, when the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, some democratic rights came out, like right to protest the government. At the beginning of the 17th century, however, absolutism, or the other form of monarchy where the monarch has absolute control, was practiced in Britain. Also, the theory of divine rights was spread by the monarchs themselves. They argued God empowered them to be in their seat of power, rather than the law itself. This led to a huge outbreak of protesting and eventually, a civil war. In 1688-1689, Parliament composed a Bill of Rights, which made basic rights the citizens wanted law. The current form of constitutional monarchy was created in the 18th and 19th centuries and is practiced in Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bhutan, , Cambodia, Canada, Denmark, Grenada, Hawaiian Kingdom, and Jamaica. It is also practiced in Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lesotho, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Morocco, Nepal, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Spain, Thailand, The Bahamas, and the United Kingdom.

My micronation's "Head of State" will be me, Queen Anna Elizabeth and my Parliament will be divided into two houses, the House of Princesses and the House for the People. The people will elect the House for the People, or the lower house, and The House of Princesses, the upper house will only be chosen by me. The amount of representatives in the House for the People will be proportionate to the population, and there will be twenty-four members in the House of Princesses. Of course, as its title reflects, only women are allowed in the House of Princesses. My monarchy has adopted many of the democratic philosophies as well. We support the freedom of speech and religion, right to assemble, and right to petition. However, freedom of the press is strictly forbidden, as it is unacceptable and can show discrimination through what is written, which is one of the worst crimes in Egalite. Also, if you commit a crime you get a trial by a judge and the HOuse of Princesses as the jury. The court in Egalite is called La cour d'equitabilité or The Fairness Court. This is how my micronation relates to constitutional monarchy.

Egalite Constitution:

In this small, but great nation of Egalite (The Land of Equality), we treat each other and the environment with utmost respect. This government is modeled after England, a constitutional monarchy, so even your great ruler, Queen Anna Elizabeth, has to follow the rules. A philosopher who would agree with this form of government is Baron months. The responsibilities of the government in our capital, Liberte (Freedom), are to protect your freedoms, provide for the common good, and protect the nation with the navy, army, and air force.

Parliament is divided into two houses, The House of Princesses and The House for the People. I select The House of Princesses and they will be able to serve for four years, and The House for the People will be selected by the people and they will serve for only two years. The ruler (me) has a lifetime rule and you do not have to be married to rule. The two houses accept proposals from the people or they propose a law themselves.
If the people propose a law, they must vote on it before it can be passed on to the House for the People. I have the final word on each and every law, and no means no! The judiciary system is consisting of a judge with a lifetime term and jurors switched out every three years. The police enforce the laws and the judge has the final decision on the sentence (hey, I'm not a law major!) The police are allowed to ticket, but they do not have the say on whether someone should go to jail.

Specific Laws:

1.Only women who are legal citizens are allowed in the House of Princesses.
2. ABSOLUTELY NO LITTERING!
3. Only one-fourth of the population can have a car, and they must be smartcars.
4. 100,000 Cleveland Cash in taxes must be payed every July.
5. Each and every citizen has a right to have freedom of speech, though freedom of the press is forbidden.
6.No one but the military and the police have any right to bear arms.
7. Always try to be kind.
8. Everyone in this land will be treated equally. No race or gender will be discriminated against.
9. The drinking age is 30.
1o. This is the Land of EQUALITY. If you show prejudice to ANYONE, you will be severely punished.
11. Citizenship policy: You must either be born here; or immigrate and live here for one year to be a fully qualified citizen.
12. Immigration policy: You must swear to obey the laws in this country, learn one of our two languages, and take a literacy test.
